In order to give children a chance for a better future, good education is a must. And that is only possible if a school has basic facilities. And that is exactly where we start: providing schools with basic infrastructure. Because most schools have leaking roofs, close to collapsing walls and no bathrooms. On top of that, the schoolyard is far from being safe.

The construction program aims to increase the number of children attending school and to provide a source of employment for local teachers and administrative staff. By providing comfortable conditions in schools we are able to attract more students from poor homes into the learning environment. Nearly all renovation work and classroom furniture are provided by local labor, helping to create jobs in neighboring communities. En Classe provides infrastructure improvements to each of its schools in the following areas:

  1. Renovation or construction of school buildings: e.g., the repair or complete replacement of the roof with Onduline, a new type of roofing sheets that are sound-proof and heat-repellent; leveling and tiling of classroom floors, strengthening or renovating doors and windows; ensuring optimal ventilation and light.
  2. Building a wall around the school grounds to make the schoolyard safe.
  3. Preventing or solving soil erosion problems.
  4. Equipping classrooms with desks, a cupboard, table and chair for the teacher.
  5. Installation of electricity.
